ABOUT E-CIGARETTES

What are e-cigarettes?

“Hello David, can you pass me my personal vaporiser”

Thankfully at OK we just say ‘electronic cigarette’, although we’re the first to admit it’s not the coolest of names. But it definitely beats: personal vaporiser, PV, e-cig, or nicotine vaporisers.

An electronic cigarette is simply a battery powered inhaler that gives you the feeling of smoking minus the actual fire, smoke and tobacco.

History of E cigarettes

A clever chap called Herbert A. Gilbert patented the first ever smokeless cigarette in 1963. Unfortunately for Herbert, he was way ahead of his time and no one really took interest in his nifty little device.

Fast forward 40 years, when the dangers of smoking are a global concern and a Chinese pharmacist produced the first ever commercial electronic cigarette using smoke-like vapour in 2004. These basic, bulky plastic devices looked more like mouth-organs than cigarettes. The early models were suitable nicotine replacement devices but lacked that feeling of actually smoking.

And that’s where OK stepped in. With the help of fellow British smokers, we designed the electronic cigarette that we’ve all been waiting for - one that actually looks and feels real.

Are electronic cigarettes healthy?

Electronic cigarettes contain nicotine which is addictive. And that’s why you have to be over 18 to buy a packet and we only recommend it for existing smokers. However, they don’t produce the harmful toxic smoke from burning tobacco that can cause lung disease and cancer when inhaled over time. And that's definitely a good thing.

So what are the long-term effects?

We’d like to say, hand on heart, that there are none. But electronic cigarettes are so new that we still can’t legally say that. OK are always testing and only use the best quality materials in all our products. Your health is our main concern and we promise we’d let you know if we found out anything that made us even 1% worried.
